Designed by George Ashlin the stables are laid out in a courtyard format and got its name from the Portmarnock red brick they were made from. It is a protected structure and during refurbishment works damaged items were replaced, existing fittings were restored, a new build kitchen and tearoom area were included with the glass roof over the tearoom. The rest of the areas were turned into arts and crafts centre for artists work spaces and a gallery included.
